Teal’c could not take a staff weapon through with him when he is digging out because that area under the rock would probably superheat.
As for why they didn’t send a missle, were they clear of the exact location of the gate? Maybe they were unsure of its proximity to the village. Imagine sending a bomb through only to kill the people you are trying to save.
I suspect she was not going to tell him, but then felt that that wouldn’t be fair to Jack.
